Use a calm run as a baseline, then change one environmental condition. BerthLab’s wind and current are authored simulation inputs, not live weather, tide data or safe operating limits.
Make a baseline you can actually compare
Select a vessel and complete a calm-water attempt before adding another variable. Note the lesson and model version. A different vessel, starting position and weather preset all at once can produce an interesting video, but not a clear explanation of one environmental effect.
Heading is not the same as movement over the scene
Inspect the orientation of the hull and the direction of the recorded path separately. Current is represented by the model’s water motion, while wind response uses estimated areas and coefficients. Their visual effects may overlap; the replay does not measure a real weather system.
Use the named exercises deliberately
Crosswind, Wind toward the dock, Up-current approach and Down-current approach are separate authored lessons. The rainfall and mist lessons belong to the judgement chapter. A mist preset is not evidence that you can operate safely with limited visibility in the real world.
Respect the model boundary
The app does not provide nautical charts, collision-avoidance assurance, tides, line handling or traffic rules for a location. A successful run under a preset says only what happened in that simulation attempt. For actual operation, use appropriate training, equipment and authoritative local information.

This note describes BerthLab’s versioned simulator and recorded-replay behavior, reviewed against the Pilot Edition source. It is not an independently validated on-water training method.
